Lucca and the Carrara Marble Quarries Adventure
Explore a splendid city in the morning and travel on top of eternal mountains in the afternoon!
An exclusive day in the north-west of Tuscany, riding the walls of Lucca on a bicycle in the morning and exploring the Marble Quarries on a 4×4 wheel-drive Land Rover in the afternoon.
OVERVIEW
Lucca is a pleasant surprise. It is a town in a fantastic state of conservation, wonderfully framed by an intact ring of solid walls. The walls are really easy to ride with a bicycle, an experience recommended for everyone, and especially for active families with children and teenagers looking for some fun time together.
Also food-wise Lucca is a wealth of surprises. The famous local spelt soup is a must, a specialty that goes very well with a glass of Montecarlo, a local wine always on the table of locals.
The town of Carrara is one hour drive from Lucca, at the foot of the Apuan alps. Michelangelo in person used to come here to select the purest blocks of marble. The David was in fact carved out a block quarried here.
The best and safest way to admire the white of the mountain ridges from within is by joining our private Marble Quarries Adventure on a 4×4 wheel drive Land Rover. Cathedrals of marble extend their pinnacles well into the sky: you will be astonished, no doubt.
